when we were still studying, my husband had quit his government /military job in prep to get baptised.we had the means for a while to live while we finished business and looked for a new job.
we had agreed to sit down on a certain date & with our list of what we wanted & to start a job search.
after careful thought for a few weeks i had my list.
I did!
When we were still studying, my husband had quit his government /military job in prep to get baptised. We had the means for a while to live while we finished business and looked for a new job. We had agreed to sit down on a certain date & with our list of what we wanted & to start a job search. After careful thought for a few weeks I had my list. I prayed to Jehovah to help us.The week before "the Date" , a letter arived in the mail. It was an invitation to apply for a position with my hubby's former employer. These are very rare invites, only when they can't find someone in the district qualified/ willing for a job & it's really important , they do a world wide search of all current & former employes and pick the 5 most highly qualified.
He had been a GS11, and temp 12 for awhile. This was a 13 $$$. It had evrything he had always wanted in a job. In charge of personel & schedules & money, no infighting compitition. The location was not one I would have ever envisioned wanting to live at but, it had everything on my list, colleges , universities , tech schools, many different kinds of good employment , location between families, recreation, etc. There were things I had not even considered asking for in my prayer I thought too selfish this place had. It was a dream come true!Chances of my husband getting the job were high. Most men with his experience /time in would have had to consider , did their famliy want to move? Most would have had wives jobs to consider, I didn't work. Most would have had kids in high school, ours were not. Most younger men would have wanted a GS13 that was going somewere for a year or 2 usually Washington DC, then move on up.We were looking to settle down long term and this was the job for it. The others invited were likely to not aply.
My husband mention the job to the brother we studied with. The elders were sure the offer had come from Satan and we should not even consider a move so close to our baptism. We may make a fatal mistake and never come into the truth if we moved then. Looking back I bet we wouldn't have too. But my husband listened to them. They ignored my attemps to let them know how I thought it was an answer to prayer. This is when the doubts started for me.

don't mean to pry, and i don't mean sexual things, but juni told me a strange story about rude "sisters" and mirrors.
hopefully she'll elaborate..until then what really goes on in that bathroom????

The weirdest thing I ever saw was a 9 year old boy who was escorted to the bathroom & mother would wait outside the stall for him. I asked her if he had a medical problem. She said no, I said " doesn't he use the bathroom at school alone?" She looked a little embarassed , but never saw him in the ladies room again.
reading the recent posts about medical emergancies made me think of this.. we would always hear how the society put so much care into the planning of the conventions, but i remember showing up on a friday morning and there was no room prepared for nursing moms or diaper changing.after asking around i was finally pointed to a dark storage room at the end of a hallway.
there were stacks of boxes sitting around & a few folding chairs leaning against a wall.
the whole place was covered in dead cockroaches & rat poop and smelled of rodent urine.

There were stacks of boxes sitting around & a few folding chairs leaning against a wall. The whole place was covered in dead cockroaches & rat poop and smelled of rodent urine. The second day the brothers had finished adding speakers so we would not miss any of the "food". But it had not been cleaned. We got a few extra chairs brought in , but no table to change our babies diapers on.3rd day it was still not cleaned and I recieved increasing dirty looks each time I passed the "room" all the elders hung out in & complained.
I also was refused one year to sit in the handicapped area. The stairs going down to the seats were very narrow , steap & with too low a railing. I was quite far along in my pregnacy and attempted to sit up top in the reserved area. The brother in charge had me in tears when I was not allowed to sit there. The area was not full & did not fill up all morning. I walked around the hallways or sat in the nursing mothers room that morning till lunch when I got a ride back to my hotel. I did not return the rest of the weekend.
These fine witnesses , really made me a firm believer in the headship arrangement and how wonderful it was to be cared for as the weaker vessel! NOT!!! Anyone else have any stories?

i was looking for articles on mennonites on the official wtbts website when this article caught my eye:.
negotiating a reasonable bride-price.
today, as in bible times, some cultures require that a bride-price be paid before a man can marry a woman.
I remember an article like this from the 90's.

i have spent numerous hours trying to outwit the squirrels.
i thought i had them licked with my own invention.
i had a 10 foot 1 inch metal pole that i greased with silicone, that i placed between a tree branch and a 6 foot fence.
We have found killing a few squirrels and nailing them high on some trees , has kept our yard from being over-run. We hang them out after the migrating birds have passed through. The squirrels are busy off in the forest till late fall , so they aren't a pest at the feeders yet. My husband puts a fresh squirrel out when they return. He hangs them away from the feeders & cover the songbirds like to use, because the dead squirrels attract hawks & eagles.
I have to bring the feeders in at night because of the bears, if I forget or am a few minutes late getting them in , they are gone or smashed. I buy cheap feeders , I forget them too often. I also like to leave one feeder out near my back door till late , for the flying squirrels. They are so cute to watch at night.
There is a pileated woodpecker in the neighborhood! The rarest bird I've seen is a purple thrush. The past few years there have been fewer birds, I heard it was the west nile killing them off.

there are tons of tv/movie programming - not to mention other more educational tools - on the web that could quickly replace the poor habit of channel surfing and potato-couching for family entertainment.. just wondering if anyone has done this?
how difficult to do?
has it worked out?.
Our phone company rates were so high here , we dropped the phone & internet, then added cable with internet and phones through internet & saved 100.$ a month! The least expensive choice may depend on where you live.

powerpoint presentations are wonderful.
i have found many good ones for use with my 9 year old grandmunchkin.
but i would love to find some more creative ones - with music or flashy effects to hold attention.

the only effective saftey for your family would be total isolation for 12 months....no one comes in, no one goes out.
the spanish flu did not reach one island at the mouth of the amazon river since it was isolated from the mainland.
i think if i had enough baked beans, water and god my plasma tv i could make it otherwise, me and my wife may not make it...he he..
How and what to stock up by the experts in disaster preparedness. You need to scroll past the LDS stuff in the beginning.

my wife has invited the sister she is studying with and her husband over on tuesday evening so i can follow along with her 'bible study - gag' since i may be very interested in this chapter.
i have read the notes from wilbur lingle on freeminds and they are helpful, but am wondering if there are any other good questions i can ask.
this is the first time i have met this gal and her husband and i do not want to come off as 'major apostate', as i am pretty sure i did with a previous study sister, i want to keep the door open to ask questions and raise some thoughts.
